Renewed Shoe Bombing Threat?
posted 5:30 pm Fri October 26, 2007 - Washington
The FBI is issuing a new warning about shoe bombs.
The alert follows the discovery of a pair of hollowed out shoes with bomb detonators inside on a bus in Europe last month. Intelligence analysts say the shoes were being used to smuggle blasting caps across a border.
Officials insist there is no specific threat at this time.
But terrorism expert Neil Livingstone says terrorists' real target now is aircraft. He says al-Qaida has been focused on figuring out how to bombs a U.S. plane since al-Qaida operative Richard Reid tried to blow up an American jet a few months after 9/11, but was stopped by passengers.
