Rain Weakens Drought, But Deficit Still Persists
posted 6:01 pm Sat October 27, 2007 - Washington
Three straight days of rain have eased the drought in the Washington area, but forecasters say the region is still at least five inches below normal rainfall for the year.
The National Weather service predicts that by the time the rain ends Saturday afternoon, we'll have gotten more than four inches.
Meteorologists says it's nice for lawns and trees and river levels, but there's still a significant rainfall shortage.
Area farmers are also celebrating the rainfall.
But it's not a welcome sight for many high school athletes. Most games in Northern Virginia were called off. A smaller number in the District and Maryland were postponed.
