Safeway Cashier Shot at Work
posted 4:34 pm Thu November 01, 2007 - Rockville, Md.
Police are still looking for four men after the shooting of a cashier in a Rockville grocery store.
Montgomery County police say it happened about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday inside the Safeway store at 1902 Veirs Mill Road.
Four masked men came into the store and began arguing with the cashier. One of the men shot the employee in the upper thigh. The suspects then ran out of the store.
Avi Koldaro had just walked out of the store when it happened. "I hear someone yelling somebody got shot. I went back inside and saw the cashier on the floor," said Koldaro.
The victim was taken to a hospital. His injuries don't appear to be life threatening.
Police said all four suspects had their faces covered with bandanas and wore red clothing.
Some people think it was the work of a gang. The number of gang members being prosecuted in Montgomery County has increased. There were 77 arrests in 2006 and almost 200 arrests as of November 2007.
Security guard Tim Bryant said, "they wear red a lot and they had red on, to be honest, I don't know."
Customers said they are worried. "We never have any problem at all, so I'm suprised."
