U.S. Park Police evacuated several homes, as well as the Egyptian consulate residence located near Rock Creek Park after the discovery of an explosive in the park; the bomb squad has issued an "all clear" for the site.
An FBI (web) spokeswoman says the live, unexploded grenade was found across the street from an office of the Egyptian Embassy. She says there is no known terrorist connection.
The embassy office was evacuated while military bomb experts worked on safely removing the grenade.
At 7:55 a.m., park police were notified of a suspicious device in the playing field north of Morrow Drive.
