CROWNSVILLE, Md. - If this poodle could talk, what a story he would tell. He ended up doggie paddling in the Chesapeake Bay for two hours, but was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The call came in about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when 2-year-old Zorro fell off of a boat belonging to his owners, Hanan and Joseph Miklasz of Crownsville. And despite not knowing exactly where the dog had fallen in, the Coast Guard was able to locate the little dog and pull him from the dark, cold water.
"We were very shocked. We couldn't believe he was not on the boat. We didn't know how it happened," said owner Hannan Miklasz.
Zorro was eventually located in the bay about a mile south of the West River according to the Maryland Gazette. The owners and their beloved pet were returning from Cambridge and needed to stop for fuel in the South River. That's when they noticed Zorro was missing.
"I called the Coast Guard and told them we had a dog overboard," said Joe Miklasz. "Then I put a 'mayday' out to all boats in the area."
It took the Coast Guard only 20 minutes to locate the dog, even though their only clue was that the dog was in the bay somewhere.
Both parties were pleasantly surprised the dog was found, considering the conditions. The dog is reportedly doing fine.
