Barack Obama (web|news|bio) has revised his stump speech to include more specifics about his tax plan, in hopes of countering McCain's characterization of his economic policy as "socialist." McCain, meanwhile, has continued to hammer this point, insisting that Obama's plan amounts to "welfare."
Obama made his eighth trip to Battleground Virginia, appearing at a massive rally in Leesburg Wednesday in front of a crowd of 35,000 people. Current poll numbers disagree about how the candidates are doing in the Old Dominion, some reporting the race as a dead heat and other giving Obama as much as a ten-point lead. The race overall has narrowed in the last two days, with the current ABC News / Washington Post poll giving Obama a one-point lead over John McCain (web|news|bio) .
On Thursday, Obama was in Indianapolis for a morning rally before heading to Hawaii to spend time with his ailing grandmother. John McCain was campaigning in Florida.
Meanwhile, Obama surrogate Senator Jim Webb was at Greenspring Retirement Community to stump for his candidate. Webb leveled his harshest criticism at Sarah Palin, saying "I don't think that, in my lifetime, I've ever seen anyone less qualified." McCain's running mate Sarah Palin will be in Battleground Virginia on Monday.
