John McCain (web|news|bio) 's brother, Joe McCain, has responded to a call he placed to 911 to complain about traffic when he was stuck on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge during which he cursed at not one, but two, 911 dispatchers.
It seems Joe McCain will no longer be campaigning for his brother after ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 first reported the incident. Joe McCain has apologized profusely for any damage he's done to his brother's campaign and for cursing at the 911 operators.
"I just could not be more apologetic or remorseful to these two officers," Joe McCain said. Joe McCain's referring to his 911 call earlier this week while sitting in traffic on the Wilson bridge. He says when frustration boiled over he didn't know who else to call.
Operator: 911 state your emergency
Caller: It's not an emergency but…do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?
Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)
Caller: "(Expletive) you." (caller hangs up)
Joe McCain's explanation: "I clicked off my cell phone and I said those two words important thing here being that I did not mean to swear at the officers themselves."
McCain later called 911 again to complain, another move he now regrets. "Whatever I do for John, I cannot do his campaign any harm and of course I've done the exact opposite," McCain added.
As a result, he says, his days campaigning for his brother are over.
"I have not talked to [John] about it. If he calls me, I think he's not going to be happy about it I'm sure," Joe McCain said. He says he will also be writing a letter of apology to both of the 911 operators he talked to.
