- (Sports Network) - Vancouver Canucks center Rick Rypien will be out indefinitely and needs to undergo surgery for a sports hernia.
Rypien was out last week because of a viral infection.
"He came back [from the road trip] and wasn't feeling well," said head coach Alain Vigneault. "Was tested, nothing came up so he started to work out on his own and started to skate on his own and felt a little twinge in his ab so he went this morning to get evaluated by a specialist. We found a sports hernia tear on the left side so he'll get operated on in the next couple of days and he'll be out indefinitely."

On another note, defenseman Sami Salo skated with the team Monday and hopes to make his return from a groin injury Tuesday when the Canucks host Boston.
"I feel good so it's up to the coaching staff and the training staff and see what they think because we have to play three games in four nights, so we don't want to rush back in just to play one game," said Salo.
