(Sports Network) - St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger sat out practice Thursday due to a bruised rotator cuff on his throwing arm, likely leaving him out for Sunday's game in San Francisco.

Bulger suffered the injury in this past weekend's 36-17 loss to Green Bay. He left the game late in the opening quarter and did not return.

Kyle Boller took over in Bulger's absence Sunday and completed 16-of-31 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns in the setback. Boller got all the reps with the starting offense at practice Thursday.

"We're just going to see if he can throw tomorrow," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said of Bulger. "We're just kind of waiting; I don't want to push the thing too long. Right now Kyle (Boller) is getting all the reps so it's leaning that way, but I'm not ready to say that."

Offensive tackle Jason Smith (knee) also missed practice. Adam Goldberg is likely to step in Smith's spot to start Sunday.
