(Sports Network) - Oakland Athletics pitcher Brett Anderson has been selected as the American League's top rookie for the final month of the season.

Anderson was 4-0 with a 2.28 earned run average in four starts during September. He yielded just 22 hits and three walks with 26 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings pitched during the month.

The 21-year-old lefty finished the season with a mark of 11-11, a 4.06 ERA and 150 strikeouts over 30 starts. He led AL rookie hurlers in strikeouts and set a new Oakland record for strikeouts by a rookie pitcher, eclipsing the previous mark of 141 by Rick Langford in 1977.

Anderson became the second straight Oakland pitcher to earn monthly rookie honors, as Andrew Bailey took home the award for August.

Others considered for the final honor this year were Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters, who batted .362 with 14 runs batted in; and Minnesota lefty Brian Duensing, who was 3-1 with a 2.78 ERA.
