(Sports Network) - Oklahoma quarterback and reigning Heisman
Trophy winner Sam Bradford stated in a press conference Tuesday he is making
progress in his return to the field but remains uncertain about his status for
Saturday's game against Baylor.
"I have a big percentage of that decision, but the coaches are going to watch
practice," Bradford said when asked if he was playing this week. "I have to go
through the week without any excess soreness...don't take any steps back"
The 19th-ranked Sooners have been without their junior quarterback since he
suffered a shoulder joint sprain in their season-opening loss to BYU. They won
two straight with redshirt freshman Landry Jones at the helm but dropped a
21-20 decision at Miami-Florida last weekend.
Bradford was hit by Cougars linebacker Coleby Clawson on an incompletion late
in the first half in the opening game of the season. He landed hard on his
right shoulder and lay writhing in pain on the playing surface.
"I feel like I will be back at some point," Bradford added while also
indicating surgery remains a possibility. "All the doctors I've talked to,
it's how my arm reacts. Until I make the throws, practice and play in a game,
I'll never know."
Saturday's game against Baylor is a prelude to Oklahoma's October 17 battle
against No. 2 Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry.
Jones has been serviceable in Bradford's absence, throwing for 861 yards with
10 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 60.4 percent of his
passes.
