(Sports Network) - Corey Perry scored twice and collected an assist, as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Boston Bruins, 6-1, at TD Garden. Teemu Selanne pumped in two power-play goals for the Ducks, who picked up their first win of the season following a pair of losses to begin the 2009-10 campaign. Jonas Hiller was strong with 33 saves for the victory, including 18 stops in the first period alone. Marco Sturm had the lone tally for the Bruins, who hadn't played since a dominating 7-2 victory over Carolina on Saturday. Tim Thomas allowed all six goals on 30 shots in defeat.

Final Score: Buffalo 2, Phoenix 1

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Thomas Vanek's late power-play goal helped the Buffalo Sabres take a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes at HSBC Arena. Clarke MacArthur had a goal and an assist, while Ryan Miller made 23 saves in the win for the Sabres, who lost a 2-1 overtime decision to Montreal in their opener last Saturday. Matthew Lombardi scored the lone goal, while Jason LaBarbera made 37 saves in the loss for the Coyotes, who had won their first two games of the season.



Final Score: Ottawa 3, NY Islanders 2 (OT)

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Mike Fisher scored the game-winning goal 32 seconds in overtime to lift the Ottawa Senators past the New York Islanders, 3-2, at Scotiabank Place. After a scramble for the puck behind the Senators net, Fisher collected the disc and rumbled down the left side of the ice. Fisher made his way to the top of the left circle before firing a wrister past the glove of Martin Biron. Matt Carkner scored the first goal of his career and dished out an assist for the Senators, who were playing in their home opener after splitting their first two games of the season on the road. Peter Regin had the other goal, while Pascal Leclaire turned aside 23-of-25 shots for the win. Matt Moulson had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who lost to the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday. Kyle Okposo had the other score, while Biron stopped 25-of-28 shots in defeat.



Final Score: Pittsburgh 5, Philadelphia 4

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Tyler Kennedy's goal early in the third period was the difference as Pittsburgh slipped past Philadelphia, 5-4, at Wachovia Center. Evgeni Malkin and Alex Goligoski registered a goal and an assist each for the Penguins, who suffered a shutout loss to Phoenix at home on Wednesday but improved to 3-1-0 on the year. Bill Guerin and Jordan Staal also lit the lamp while Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves for the win, his 16th career victory over Philadelphia. Jeff Carter picked up two goals and two assists for the Flyers, who lost for the first time this year after three straight wins. Danny Briere added a pair of scores and Mike Richards notched two assists for Philly, which was trying to open a season 4-0 for the first time since 1995-96. Ray Emery took the loss by allowing five goals on just 25 shots.



Final Score: NY Rangers 4, Washington 3

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Marian Gaborik scored the game-tying goal in the third period and added the game-winning tally about two minutes later, as the New York Rangers edged the Washington Capitals (web | news) , 4-3, at Verizon Center. Ales Kotalik also scored for the Rangers, who avenged their loss to the Capitals in the quarterfinal round of last season's Eastern Conference playoffs. Ryan Callahan finished with a goal in the win, while Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves. Nicklas Backstrom had two goals on five shots for the Caps, who dropped their second straight after opening the season with back-to-back wins. Alexander Semin also lit the lamp in the setback. Jose Theodore let in four goals on the 29 shots he faced.



Final Score: New Jersey 4, Tampa Bay 3 (SO)

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Zach Parise scored the game-winner in the shootout and added a goal and an assist in regulation as the New Jersey Devils continued their recent dominance over the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 4-3 victory at St. Pete Times Forum. In the shootout, Steven Stamkos' wrister went wide right and Parise made a move to the right before going back to left at the last minute and dumping the puck into the back of the net. An Alex Tanguay miss allowed Jamie Langenbrunner to seal the win for New Jersey. Travis Zajac tied the contest with less than a second left in regulation and dished out an assist for the Devils, who have won eight straight meetings against Tampa Bay. Jay Pandolfo had the other goal for New Jersey, which got 41 saves from Martin Brodeur. Stamkos had a pair of goals for the Lightning, who have dropped 12 consecutive games dating back to last season. Todd Fedoruk had a goal, while Martin St. Louis had two assists. Mike Smith stopped 31-of-34 shots in defeat.



Final Score: Detroit 3, Chicago 2

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Chris Osgood finished with 31 saves as the Detroit Red Wings took a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in Detroit's home opener. Kris Draper, Nicklas Lidstrom and Johan Franzen each had a goal for the Red Wings, who opened up the season by dropping two games to St. Louis in Stockholm, Sweden. Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg each had a goal and an assist while Cristobal Huet made 20 saves in the loss for the Blackhawks, who split two games with Florida in Helsinki, Finland to start the season.



Final Score: Atlanta 4, St. Louis 2

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Ilya Kovalchuk scored a pair of goals as Atlanta spoiled the home-opener for St. Louis, 4-2, at Scottrade Center. Evander Kane posted his first career goal and Eric Boulton also tallied for the Thrashers, who recorded just the second 2-0 start to a season in franchise history. Ondrej Pavelec made 29 stops for the win. Keith Tkachuk had a goal and one assist for the Blues, who had bested Detroit twice in Stockholm last weekend to start the campaign. Roman Polak also scored but Chris Mason allowed three goals on 21 shots in the setback.



Final Score: Nashville 3, Colorado 2

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Patric Hornqvist scored two goals 2:17 apart in the third period, as the Nashville Predators opened the home portion of their schedule with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Jason Arnott registered a goal and an assist for Nashville, which began its season with a 3-2 shootout victory at Dallas on Saturday. Dan Ellis made 22 saves in the victory. Kyle Quincey and Marek Svatos each had a power-play goal for the Avalanche, who won both of their games at home to start the 2009-10 campaign. Craig Anderson stopped 34-of-37 shots in defeat.



Final Score: Los Angeles 6, Minnesota 3

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Smyth registered two goals and an assist, and for the second consecutive game Los Angeles watched a comfortable lead evaporate but recovered to post a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Wild. Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar both finished with a goal and two helpers for the Kings, who lost their season opener against Phoenix and blew a 4-0 lead before holding on to defeat San Jose 6-4 on Tuesday. Michal Handzus and Teddy Purcell also scored for Los Angeles, and Jonathan Quick made 26 saves. Free-agent acquisition Martin Havlat, Nick Schultz and Kim Johnsson lit the lamp for the Wild, who kicked off a five-game road trip. Josh Harding, making his first start of the season, stopped 17-of-23 shots in defeat.

Final Score: San Jose 6, Columbus 3

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Dany Heatley's home debut with the Sharks was one to remember as the veteran center recorded his eighth career hat trick on a four-point night, as San Jose earned a 6-3 win over Columbus. Joe Thornton had four assists as part of the highlights in San Jose's home opener, while Dan Boyle recorded a goal and two assists. Devin Setoguchi notched a goal and a helper, while Marc-Edouard Vlasic also lit the lamp for the Sharks, who have won 10 straight home games against the Blue Jackets. Heatley, acquired in a blockbuster trade from Ottawa during the offseason, became the first Sharks player with a hat trick in his regular season debut at HP Pavilion. He scored twice in the second period and again in the third on a penalty shot as the hats came raining down from the home crowd. Evgeni Nabokov had 24 saves for San Jose, which lost two of three games on their season-opening road trip.
