(Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored the decisive goal in the shootout, as the Calgary Flames won their fourth straight game to open the season for the first time in over 15 years with a 4-3 victory over Edmonton.

The last time the Flames won four straight games to start a season was when they captured their first-ever Pacific Division title back in 1993-94.

Edmonton's Sam Gagner went first in the extra segment and had his offering stopped. Calgary's Nigel Dawes then skated in, faked left and fired a goal over Nikolai Khabibulin's glove hand. Patrick O'Sullivan then beat Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Jokinen skated in towards the left side of the goal and managed to squeeze the puck between the left post and Khabibulin's skate. Kiprusoff then denied Ales Hemsky to end the game.

Rene Bourque had a goal and two assists for the Flames, who host Dallas on Friday. Daymond Langkow and Dawes also scored in regulation, while Kiprusoff stopped 25 shots.

Ethan Moreau, Lubomir Visnovsky and Hemsky scored for the Oilers, who have dropped two of three to start the season. Khabibulin also turned away 25 shots.

With the game tied at two in the third, Hemsky gained control of a loose puck in front of the net, skated to his right and wristed a shot into the wide-open net to give Edmonton the lead with 6 1/2 minutes left to play.

The Flames then pulled their goalie and, with 1.5 seconds left, Bourque redirected a shot through Khabibulin's legs and the game went into overtime.

Neither team mustered any offense in the extra frame and the game headed for a shootout.

The Oilers took a 1-0 lead as Moreau skated in on a fast break and snapped a shot past Kiprusoff with 3:33 left in the opening stanza.

Later in the first, on a power play, Visnovsky started at the top left corner of the zone, skated in and fired a shot that beat Kiprusoff top shelf with 14 ticks left in the frame.

Langkow's backhander with under 30 seconds left in the second closed it to 2-1 after two periods of play.

Calgary evened the score early in the third. Staffan Kronwall took a shot from the top left corner of the zone and Dawes, stationed in front of the net, redirected it through the five hole at the 4:11 mark.

Game Notes

The Flames have won five of the past six meetings in this series...Khabibulin was denied his 301st career triumph...Sheldon Souray suffered a mild concussion in the second period and did not return.
