(Sports Network) - Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford will be the
starting quarterback when 19th-ranked Oklahoma hosts Baylor on Saturday.
Bradford has not played since the season-opening loss to BYU when he suffered
a sprained right shoulder joint. He has been practicing this week.
"Sam has had a great week of practice and is ready to play," said Oklahoma
head coach Bob Stoops on Friday. "We're obviously excited to have him back."
The Sooners are 2-2 this season. After losing the opener to BYU, redshirt
freshman Landry Jones helped OU to wins over Idaho State and Tulsa before last
week's 21-20 loss at Miami-Florida.
"We remain very pleased with the work Landry Jones did in replacing Sam and
our entire program has a lot of confidence in his ability," Stoops added.
Bradford was hurt late in the first half of the season-opener when he took a
hit from BYU linebacker Coleby Clawson. He landed hard on his right shoulder
and lay writhing in pain on the playing surface.
Despite his return, Bradford indicated this week that surgery remains a
possibility.
Bradford's return this week also gives him some game action before Oklahoma's
battle next week against No. 2 Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry.
Jones has been serviceable in Bradford's absence, throwing for 861 yards with
10 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 60.4 percent of his
passes.
