(Sports Network) - Mike Ribeiro and Brad Richards each had a goal and an assist, as the Dallas Stars handed the Calgary Flames their first loss of the season with a 5-2 win at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Brian Sutherby, Loui Eriksson and Tom Wandell each lit the lamp for the Stars, who won their first game of the season after shootout losses to Edmonton and Nashville. Alex Auld was sharp in net, as he made 21 saves for the win.

"We had a good start tonight and were able to make it count," said Auld. "The offense put up some goals and the defense was solid in front of me, which makes my job a lot easier."

Dion Phaneuf and Rene Bourque both scored once for the Flames, who had won their first four games of the season coming into the contest. Curtis McElhinney was charged with four goals on 29 shots in the loss.

"It was a tough one tonight," said Calgary defenseman Robyn Regehr. "We knew they would be ready to go and unfortunately we didn't come out with the start that we wanted. We still have a few things to work on here."

Dallas got the first goal of the game and the only goal of the first period just 1:02 in. Stephane Robidas threw a shot on net from the right point that got knocked down, but Ribeiro grabbed the puck in front and slammed it home.

Auld finished the period with 11 saves to keep Calgary off the board.

The Stars again struck quick to start the second period, as Sutherby's first goal of the season just 55 seconds in made it a 2-0 game.

Calgary used the power play to get on the board and make it a 2-1 game. Just moments after Steve Ott was called for interference, a right circle faceoff win by Jarome Iginla saw the puck come back to Phaneuf, who blasted a shot past Auld for his third goal of the year.

Dallas, though, regained its two-goal lead at the nine-minute mark of the second, as Wandell blasted a shot on net from the right circle that popped into the air and trickled across the goalline.

Skating on the power play in the third, the Flames again cut their deficit to one. After controlling the puck on a faceoff win, Calgary worked the puck in the Dallas end and a shot from Mark Giordano at the right point deflected to the low right side where Bourque deflected it in at 5:17.

However, Dallas again answered just over four minutes later. James Neal skated the puck around the Calgary net and from the right side sent the puck to Richards at the right circle. Richards immediately sent the puck to the low left side where Eriksson shoved it in for a 4-2 advantage.

Calgary had a power play later in the frame but failed to score and pulled McElhinney for an extra attacker. Richards then put the puck into the empty net for Dallas to seal the win.

Game Notes

Dallas wraps up its three-game road trip in Vancouver on Sunday...Calgary plays in Chicago on Monday...These teams have split the season series for each of the past three seasons...Calgary went 2-for-4 on the power play while Dallas failed to score on either of its two chances...Phaneuf and Bourque each have three goals on the season.
