(Sports Network) - Florida remained in the top spot while
Alabama jumped ahead of Texas for second, as the SEC holds the top two
places in the latest Associated Press college football poll.
Florida (5-0) retained its spot atop the poll thanks to a 13-3 win over LSU,
which dropped from fourth to No. 10. Florida received 50 first-place votes and
a total of 1,490 points from a nationwide media panel.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, whose status was uncertain coming into the game
with a concussion he suffered two weeks prior, led the defending national
champs as he threw the only touchdown of the game late in the second quarter.
The Gators' defense stymied LSU in the second half for the win.
Alabama (6-0) downed Ole Miss, 22-3, on Saturday to leap past Texas for the
second spot with 10 first-place votes -- five more than last week -- and 1,430
points. Despite a 38-14 pasting of Colorado, Texas (5-0) lost its only first-
place vote and fell into the third spot with 1,395 points.
Virginia Tech (5-1) moved up one to No. 4 thanks to a 48-14 rout of Boston
College while Boise State (5-0), which had the week off, slid up to fifth.
Southern California, which was idle, moved into the sixth spot and Ohio State
jumped up two spots to No. 9 thanks to a 31-13 win over Wisconsin. Cincinnati
remained at No. 8, Miami-Florida moved up two spots to No. 9 and LSU dropped
to 10th.
Iowa, TCU, which dropped out of the top-10, Oregon, Penn State and Nebraska
hold the next five positions. The Cornhuskers jumped up six spots thanks to a
27-12 win at Missouri on Thursday.
Oklahoma State, Kansas, BYU, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma completed the top-20.
The Yellow Jackets moved up three spots after taking a 49-44 win over Florida
State.
South Florida, South Carolina, Houston, Utah and Notre Dame took the final
five spots.
The final three teams in the poll were not ranked last week, while Auburn,
which lost to Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri all dropped out of the poll.
Next week will feature five games between ranked. On Thursday, Cincinnati will
play in South Florida while Saturday's matches include Oklahoma taking on
Texas, USC playing Notre Dame, Virginia Tech taking on Georgia Tech and South
Carolina facing Alabama.
