(Sports Network) - Second-seeded Marion Bartoli of France moved into the quarterfinals at the $220,000 HP Japan Women's Open with a swift 6-1, 6-1 dismantling of native Kurumi Nara.
In other second-round matches Wednesday, Francesca Schiavone of Italy -- a surprise quarterfinalist at Wimbledon -- outlasted Yung-Jan Chan of China 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
Also, seventh-seeded Melinda Czink of Hungary was an easy 6-4, 6-2 winner over American Vania King, while India's Sania Mirza, who bested fifth-seeded Shahar Peer in the first round, got the better of the Ukraine's Viktoriya Kutuzova, 6-4, 6-3.
More second-round play will take place Thursday, highlighted by defending champion and top seed Caroline Wozniacki taking on Britain's Katie O'Brien. Third-seeded Aussie Samantha Stosur will also be in action against Japan's Akiko Morigami. Also, No. 6 seed Aleksandra Wozniak battles qualifier Kai-Chen Chang, and 35-year-old Jill Craybas looks to knock off Mathilde Johansson.
This week's winner will collect $37,000.
