(Sports Network) - Binghamton University basketball coach Kevin Broadus has been placed on paid leave of absence, the school announced in a release Wednesday.

Interim athletic director James Norris said he put Broadus on leave after discussions with school president Lois B. DeFleur and vice president James Van Voorst. Assistant coach Mark Macon will take over on an interim basis.

"There have been continuing incidents of concern related to the men's basketball program that do not measure up to Binghamton University's high standards," Norris said in a release.

Norris took over the athletic director position on an interim basis at the end of September, after Dr. Joel Thirer stepped down amid several players being kicked off the basketball team due to legal troubles.

The school will bring in Judith Kaye, retired chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals, for an audit of the athletic program to ensure that it is following America East and NCAA policies and procedures.

The start of Binghamton's problems came when Emmanuel Mayben was arrested for possession with intent to sell cocaine earlier this month. Having led the school to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2009, Mayben was immediately kicked off the team.

Just a day after Mayben was released from the program, Binghamton did the same to Malik Alvin, Corey Chandler, Paul Crosby, David Fine and Derrick Rivera.
