(Sports Network) - Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and Australia's Samantha Stosur were among the second-round winners Thursday at the HP Japan Women's Open.
Wozniacki, the top seed and defending champion, breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Great Britain's Katie O'Brien in a mere 44 minutes. It's been a banner year for Wozniacki, who has already won three titles this year and has been to five other finals.
One of those finals was at the U.S. Open in her maiden Grand Slam title match, where she lost to Kim Clijsters.
Wozniacki will next face Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak, who moved on with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) win over qualifier Kai-Chen Chang of Chinese Taipei. The two with similar sounding last names have met five times previously, with Wozniacki winning four times.
Friday's quarterfinal matchup will be the fourth meeting between the two this year. Wozniacki won a title match at Ponte Vedra Beach and a semifinal at Eastbourne before capturing a second-round tilt at Cincinnati. Just two weeks ago in Tokyo, Wozniak moved on in a second-round match when Wozniacki was forced to retire because of a viral illness.
The third-seeded Stosur also had an easy match Thursday with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Japan's Akiko Morigami. She'll next play American Jill Craybas, who rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over France's Mathilde Johansson.
Friday's other quarterfinal matches will pit second-seeded Marion Bartoli of France against India's Sania Mirza and fourth-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy against seventh-seeded Melinda Czink of Hungary. All four were second- round winners on Wednesday.
This week's winner will collect $37,000.
