BELTSVILLE, Md. - Police locked down a Maryland neighborhood after an attempted armored car heist ended in gunfire. Authorities say the suspect ran from the scene in Beltsville and forced his way into a home.
Police in Prince George's County opened fire on one attempted robbery suspect Friday afternoon, wounding him, authorities confirmed.
A Prince George's police spokesperson said it all began with the attempted robbery of an armored Dunbar truck on Powder Mill Road at about 3:30 p.m.
The suspect approached the armored truck with what appeared to be an assault rifle, police said.
An officer shot at the gunman's vehicle, hitting the driver's side window of a gray Chevy Impala, police said.
The Impala was found in the area of Lexington Avenue. Police say the suspect fled on foot and ran into a house near Lexington Avenue and Queen Anne Avenue.
The man exited the house armed with a rifle and was then shot by police, investigators said.
The man was transported to an area hospital. Police say he sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Police say there was only one suspect in the incident. His identity has not been released.
