(Sports Network) - Tim Thomas picked up his first shutout of the season with 27 saves, as Boston defeated Dallas 3-0 at American Airlines Center.

Marc Savard scored twice and Patrice Bergeron netted the other goal for the Bruins, who have won two of the last three games. Bergeron also notched an assist in the win.

Boston was coming off a 2-3-0 subpar season-opening homestand that ended Monday with a 4-3 defeat by Colorado. Thomas, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, was just 1-2-0 with a 4.00 goals against average in three starts coming in. He sat the last two games in favor of backup Tuukka Rask.

"I was able to find the puck, partially because we played the way we want to play, the way we were playing for a good chunk of last season," Thomas said. "Pressuring them while still being under control."

Marty Turco stopped 26-of-29 shots for the Stars, who lost for the first time in regulation this year (2-1-3).

"Boston took their game to another level and we couldn't match it tonight," Dallas head coach Marc Crawford said. "It's tough to beat a team as good as Boston is if you don't have everybody going, and we didn't have everybody going tonight for whatever reason."

The B's struck first on the power play at 13:32 of the first period. Savard swept the puck in front of Turco from behind the right side of the net and the disc deflected in off the stick of defenseman Stephane Robidas.

A shade over 3 1/2 minutes into the second, Boston took a 2-0 lead. Bergeron won an offensive zone draw back to the left point where Mark Stuart slung a hard shot low through traffic and off Bergeron screening in front.

Savard then lit the lamp for a second time to make it a three-goal game less than five minutes later and the Bruins' defense clamped down in the third period to help preserve the shutout.

Thomas stopped seven shots over the opening 20 minutes and made 10 saves in each of the final two periods.

Game Notes

Boston will be without Dennis Wideman for this two-game road trip as the defenseman did not travel with the club because of a left shoulder injury...The B's will also take on Phoenix on their brief road trip while the Stars play four of the next five games on the road beginning Saturday in Chicago...Brad Richards had scored in three straight games and had a point in all five of Dallas' games until Friday's loss...Boston has won four of the last six meetings but is just 2-6 with two ties in its last 10 trips to Dallas.
