(Sports Network) - Rich Peverley scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winning score early in the third period, as the Atlanta Thrashers took down the New Jersey Devils, 4-2, at Prudential Center.

Evander Kane and Chris Thorburn each had a goal for the Thrashers, who have won three of their first four games to begin the season. Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 28-of-30 shots for the victors.

"He's (Brodeur) probably one of the best there is or ever was. Anytime you can score against him it's fun," Peverley said.

Travis Zajac and Zach Parise lit the lamp for the Devils, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Bryce Salvador had a pair of assists, while Martin Brodeur stopped 15-of-19 shots in defeat.

"I think it's just a coincidence right now," Parise said. "I don't think we're preparing any differently; I don't think it's anything different that we're doing. It's three games that we haven't played well at home. We've played three good games on the road, and all of a sudden we're 3-3. We have to play better tomorrow."

Kane's goal at the 1:36 mark of the third stanza put the Thrashers ahead 2-1. Kane charged past a defender along the left boards and found himself with a clear path to Brodeur. Kane then fired a wrister into the upper right-hand corner of the net.

The Thrashers used a power-play goal from Peverley at the 5:55 mark to build a two-goal margin. Peverley controlled the puck at left circle before sliding a pass to Nik Antropov, who was positioned in front of the net with his back to Brodeur. Antropov quickly passed back to Peverley, who fired a shot between the post and the right pad of Brodeur.

New Jersey lit the lamp with 6:50 remaining to cut the deficit to 3-2. Jamie Langenbrunner controlled a bouncing puck in front of the net before dishing off to Parise, who chipped the disc into the back of the net.

Thorburn's short-handed goal with 3:11 left sealed the victory for the Thrashers.

After a scoreless first period, the Devils drew first blood at the 8:07 mark of the second. Langenbrunner, who was positioned along the right boards at center ice, slid a pass to an open Zajac, who collected the disc at the blue line before firing a wrister past Pavelec.

A too many men on the ice penalty put Atlanta on the power play late in the second period. Maxim Afinogenov's shot from the left circle went off the right pad of Brodeur, setting up a rebound. Peverley collected the disc in front and slammed it home with 5:03 left to tie the contest.

Game Notes

New Jersey won three of four meetings against the Thrashers last season and has taken six of nine overall in the series. Atlanta has picked up three victories in its last four trips to the Garden State...New Jersey is 0-3-0 at home this season...The Devils host Carolina on Saturday, while the Thrashers travel to Buffalo.
