(Sports Network) - Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, the top seed and defending champion, was ousted by third-seeded Samantha Stosur on Saturday in the semifinals at the HP Japan Women's Open.

The Australian Stosur took a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Wozniacki, who needed a three-set victory on Friday to reach the semis. Stosur advanced to her second final of the season, while Wozniacki fell in her quest for a fourth title of the year.

Stosur's opponent will be fourth-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone, who reached the semis after her quarterfinal opponent, Melinda Czink, withdrew from the match with a right foot injury.

Schiavone then advanced to the final with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over India's Sania Mirza, who had also advanced because of an opponent's injury. Mirza was ahead in her quarterfinal match against second-seeded Marion Bartoli, who retired due to a right shoulder injury.

This week's winner will collect $37,000.
