(Sports Network) - Southeastern Conference foes Florida and
Alabama hold the top two spots in the first Bowl Championship Series standings
released this season.

The 6-0 Gators hold the top spot with a BCS average of .9886, though nearly
saw their national championship hopes take a big hit Saturday. Florida got a
27-yard field goal from Caleb Sturgis with nine seconds left to take a 23-20
win over Arkansas.

Florida dropped to No.2 in the Associated Press poll following the close win,
but has control in the national championship picture with designs on
repeating. The Gators defeated Oklahoma in the BCS National Championship game
last season.

Meanwhile, Alabama, the new AP No.1, is ranked second in the BCS standings
with an average of .9526. The Crimson Tide moved to 7-0 with a 20-6 defeat of
South Carolina on Saturday.

Texas (6-0) is ranked third following a 16-13 win Saturday in the annual Red
River Rivalry game against the Sooners. The Longhorns hold a .8911 average,
which is computed by averaging the percentage totals of the Harris Interactive
poll, USA Today poll and computer rankings.

Boise State (6-0) is the highest-ranked team not from a BCS conference, which
are guaranteed automatic BCS bowl bids, as the Broncos sit fourth with an
average of .8083.

Cincinnati (6-0) is fifth with an average of .7870. Iowa (7-0), Southern
California (5-1), Texas Christian (6-0), LSU (5-1) and Miami-Florida (5-1)
round out the top-10.
