(Sports Network) - St. John's University swingman Anthony Mason Jr. will have his return to the court delayed due to a hamstring injury.
In July, Mason was granted a medical hardship by the Big East Conference and was given the go-ahead to rejoin the Red Storm for a redshirt senior season in 2009-10. But a hamstring injury he aggravated in practice over the weekend will keep him out the next 4-to-6 weeks.
Mason, the son of former New York Knicks forward Anthony Mason, played only three games last season and was forced to miss the remainder of the year due to a torn peroneal tendon in his right foot. He averaged a team-best 14 points during the 2007-08 campaign, but spent several months recovering from the foot injury.
The Red Storm open their season on November 13 against Long Island University.
