(Sports Network) - Nigel Dawes scored two goals to lead the Calgary Flames to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Rene Bourque added a goal and two assists for the Flames, who have won three straight after a three-game losing streak. Eric Nystrom and David Moss also scored, while Daymond Langkow added two assists in the win.
Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 23 shots in the win, Calgary's third over Edmonton in as many tries this season.
"For the most part it was a pretty solid hockey game," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter. "Kipper (Kiprusoff) stood tall...We had a lot of very good hockey players here tonight."
Lubomir Visnovsky and Dustin Penner both scored once for the Oilers, who had won five of their previous six. Ales Hemsky and Sam Gagner both had two assists, while Nikolai Khabibulin allowed five goals on 38 shots in the loss.
Visnovsky gave Edmonton an early lead with a power play goal 2:25 into the game, but Calgary responded with four consecutive goals to take control.
At the 11:54 mark of the opening period, with the Oilers on the power play, the Flames tied the game on Bourque's shorthanded tip-in.
The teams headed into the middle period tied, 1-1, but Dawes put Calgary ahead for good with his third goal of the season at the 3:53 mark, a snap shot.
Just 36 seconds later, a scrum in front of the net produced another goal, as Nystrom was able to sneak the puck in just inside of the left post to make it a 3-1 contest.
With 9:37 left in the second, Moss tipped a Dion Phaneuf point shot down low past Khabibulin for a three-goal advantage. The goal was reviewed to see if Moss' stick was too high, but the tally was upheld.
Edmonton got back to within two just before the end of the period, as Penner picked up a puck in the crease that Kiprusoff couldn't control and slid it past the netminder at 18:35 for a 4-2 game heading to the third.
The Oilers had a two-man advantage to start the third, but were unable to convert. Dawes added a power-play tally from a sharp angle with 7:33 left to play to seal the win for Calgary.
"Once they had little a lead, we reverted to solo play, and we abandoned the game plan," said Edmonton head coach Pat Quinn. "We had a lot of guys cheating to get some offense, but you don't get it when you cheat."
