(Sports Network) - Virginia-native Denny Hamlin held off points leader Jimmie Johnson in two late-race restarts to win Sunday's Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
Hamlin sustained damage to his front panel during an early-round of pit stops, but rebounded to take the lead from Johnson with 139 laps remaining. He beat Johnson out of the pits on the final round of stops and then beat him at the finish by about two cars length for his third victory of the season and the seventh of his Sprint Cup Series career. He won at his hometrack in Richmond last month.
Johnson, who had won five of the last six races at Martinsville, finished second and increased his lead to 118 points over Mark Martin, who came in eighth.
Juan Pablo Montoya, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon completed the top-five. Gordon remained third in the rankings, trailing his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Johnson by 150 points with four races remaining in the Chase.
