(Sports Network) - Just one week after dropping out of the No. 1
spot, Florida is back at the top of the latest Associated Press college
football poll.

Florida (7-0) fell from its perch atop the poll last Sunday for the first time
since Week 15 of last season, but regained its footing thanks to a 29-19 win
over Mississippi State on Saturday. The Gators received 30 first-place
votes and 1,463 points.

Alabama (8-0), which had the No. 1 spot coming into play on Saturday, moved
back to No. 2 as the team garnered 23 first-place votes and 1,448 points.
The Crimson Tide scratched out a 12-10 win over Tennessee on Saturday as
Terrence Cody blocked a 44-yard field goal attempt from Daniel Lincoln on the
last play of the game.

Texas (7-0) retained its third spot and remained undefeated on the season with
a 41-7 pasting of Missouri. The Longhorns grabbed seven first-place votes
and 1,407 points.

USC (6-1) and Cincinnati (7-0) stayed at fourth and fifth place, respectively,
as the Trojans defeated Oregon State, 42-36, and the Bearcats defeated
Louisville, 41-10, despite star quarterback Tony Pike sitting out with a
left forearm injury.

Boise State (7-0) and Iowa (8-0) also remained in their respective places --
sitting sixth and seventh -- while TCU moved up two spots to eighth thanks to
a big win over then 16th-ranked BYU. LSU (6-1) remained at No. 9 after a 31-10
victory against Auburn and Oregon (6-1) jumped two spots to 10th following a
43-19 blowout of Washington.

Georgia Tech stayed at No. 11, beating Virginia on the road, while Penn State
moved up one spot to 12th following a big road win at Michigan. Oklahoma State
crushed Baylor Saturday and moved up one spot to 13th and idle Virginia Tech
jumped up one slot into 14th. Houston rounds out the top 15, moving up two
spots thanks to a rout of SMU.

Pittsburgh blew out South Florida, leaping four spots to 16th, and Ohio State
moved up one to No. 17 after a sound defeat of Minnesota. Miami-Florida was
the biggest loser, dropping 10 places to No. 18 following an overtime loss to
Clemson. Utah remained at No. 19, needing OT in a narrow win against Air
Force, while West Virginia jumped two spots and rounds out the top 20
following a hard-fought victory over Connecticut.

South Carolina's win over Vanderbilt gained them two spots in the poll as they
hold down No. 21, while Oklahoma jumped three spots to No. 22 following a
35-13 win against Kansas.

Arizona, Ole Miss and Notre Dame finish out the top 25, respectively, entering
the rankings following wins on Saturday.

Two games featuring ranked teams take place next week as Texas visits Oklahoma
State while USC plays at Oregon. Florida and Georgia meet next Saturday for
their annual matchup in Jacksonville.
