(Sports Network) - Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Johnson was taken off the ice on a stretcher in the second period of Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Detroit.
Johnson charged down the right side of the ice with the disc as he entered into the Red Wings zone. He attempted to get past a defender but fell in the process and went crashing into the boards, with his upper back taking most of the pounding.
He remained almost motionless on the ice as the trainers and medical staff rushed onto the ice. Johnson was placed on a backboard before being put on a stretcher.
Johnson was reported to be alert with full movement and was taken to the hospital for further observation.
