(Sports Network) - Dainius Zubrus scored the game-winning goal with 1:26 to play, and the New Jersey Devils won a club-record sixth straight road game to start the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins. Zubrus scored only his second goal of the season for the Devils, who are now 6-0-0 on the road and 1-4-0 at home. David Clarkson added the other goal for New Jersey, while Yann Danis made his first start in net and stopped 31 shots to earn the victory. The Devils have now won seven of nine overall after starting the season with two losses. Patrice Bergeron scored the only goal for the Bruins, who have alternated wins and losses the entire season, spanning 11 games and beginning with a defeat to start the year. Tim Thomas allowed two goals on 31 shots to take the loss for Boston.

Final Score: Washington 4, Atlanta 3

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Alex Ovechkin scored twice and added an assist, as the Washington Capitals (web | news) claimed a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena. Brendan Morrison and Mike Knuble also tallied, while Brooks Laich added three assists for the Capitals, who have won six straight after dropping the previous four contests. It's Washington's longest winning streak since the team won seven in a row from December 23-January 6 of last season. Semyon Varlamov turned in a solid performance between the pipes, stopping 38-of-41 shots. Zach Bogosian scored a pair of goals and Todd White registered a goal and a helper for Atlanta, which has dropped four straight games. Ondrej Pavelec made 28 saves in defeat.



Final Score: Tampa Bay 5, Ottawa 2

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Steven Stamkos scored twice and added an assist, as the Tampa Bay Lightning took a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators at St. Pete Times Forum. Ryan Malone had a goal and two assists, while Alex Tanguay had a goal and an assist for the Lightning, who have won two of three. Mike Smith made 21 saves in the victory. Alex Kovalev and Jarkko Ruutu had the goals for Ottawa, which has lost three of four. Brian Elliott let in all five goals on 27 shots.



Final Score: Nashville 2, Chicago 0

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Pekka Rinne made 22 saves to record his first shutout of the season, and Joel Ward's goal in the second period lifted Nashville to a 2-0 win over Chicago. Rinne recorded his eighth career shutout in only his 55th career start for the Predators, who had lost four straight to Chicago, including two this season. Jerred Smithson added an empty-net goal in the final seconds for Nashville, which won for the third time in four games. Chicago had a two-game winning streak snapped, as Cristobal Huet stopped 26-of-27 shots.



Final Score: Phoenix 2, St. Louis 0

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Daniel Winnik scored the game-winning goal early in the second period, and Ilya Bryzgalov picked up his third shutout of the season after stopping all 32 shots faced, as the Phoenix Coyotes got by the St. Louis Blues, 2-0, at Scottrade Center. Taylor Pyatt also registered a goal, while Vernon Fiddler notched a pair of assists for the Coyotes, who were able to build off a 4-1 win at Columbus on Wednesday. Phoenix has won six of its last eight overall. Bryzgalov earned his 11th career shutout. Ty Conklin stopped 27-of-29 shots for St. Louis, which has split its last six games.



Final Score: Edmonton 6, Detroit 5 (SO)

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Patrick O'Sullivan buried the game-winning shootout goal, and Edmonton overcame blowing a four-goal lead in regulation to post a wild 6-5 win over Detroit at Rexall Place. Edmonton goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin was burned for five goals, four over the final 27-plus minutes, on 45 shots. Ales Hemsky scored twice and added an assist for Edmonton, while Dustin Penner had a goal and three helpers. Shawn Horcoff added a goal and two assists for the Oilers, who had lost three in a row. Jonathan Ericsson, Patrick Eaves and Darren Helm logged a goal and assist each for the Red Wings, who are 1-1-2 on their current five-game road trip. Jimmy Howard let in five goals on 33 shots in Thursday's setback, which saw Detroit forward Valtteri Filppula suffer a broken wrist.



Final Score: Vancouver 2, Los Angeles 1 (SO)

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Mikael Samuelsson scored in regulation and had the game-winner in the shootout, lifting the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center. Andrew Raycroft made 30 saves in regulation and overtime for the Canucks, who have won four of five. Scott Parse lit the lamp, while Jonathan Quick stopped 14 shots for the Kings, who have dropped two in a row -- both in a shootout -- on the heels of a four-game win streak.
