MANASSAS, Va. - The Manassas woman who reported her adopted daughter missing, only to later plead guilty to murdering her, will undergo another mental evaluation before she is sentenced in the case.

Alfreedia Gregg-Glover was scheduled to be sentenced Friday, but a judge granted a defense request for Glover to undergo another mental evaluation. A previous exam found her fit to stand trial.

Gregg-Glover faces up to 51 years behind bars after she pleaded guilty July 6 to felony murder, felony child abuse and filing a false police report in the death of 13-year-old Alexis "Lexie" Agyepong-Glover, who suffered from physical and mental disabilities.

Gregg-Glover initially told police the girl disappeared Jan. 7 near the Manassas library, triggering a two-day search across the county. Lexie's body was found miles in a creek two days later. The medical examiner ruled the teen died from drowning and exposure.

Gregg Glover admitted in court that she found Lexie unconscious in her backyard the morning of January 7. She said she panicked and placed in the unconscious girl in a creek in a wooded area miles from her home.

The medical examiner ruled Lexie Glover, 13, died from drowning and exposure.

Emotions ran high outside the Prince William County (web | news) courtroom for those who knew Lexie Glover.

Gregg-Glover looked considerably more frail than her arrest last January, ABC 7's Gail Pennbacker reported. Gregg-Glover's attorney told the judge he was concerned about Glover's mental health, saying she is too emotionally fragile to face her fate. But Lexie's friends say it was a stalling tactic.

"She trying to go away from the jail," said Lissette Romero. "She wants to go to the mental hospital, you know? She knows what she did, we know what she did. We know the truth."

Because Glover pleaded guilty, evidence was never presented, including allegations about months of previous abuse against the child. That evidence would have been revealed at Friday's sentencing hearing.

"We were prepared to present basically what happened, her background, the horror what happened to the victim and ask for a very harsh sentence," said Paul Ebert, Prince William County's Commonwealth's Attorney.

Marlene Williams believes Glover is trying to avoid that evidence being made public.

"She doesn't want pictures shown, she doesn't want any evidence anything, she doesn't want anybody to know what she did to that precious child," Williams said.

Those who know Alfreedia Glover, including Leann Harris, who's daughter is Alfreedia's grandchild, say they are surprised by the reason for the delay.

"I've known her for five years and she's never seemed out of focus to me," Harris said . "She's always been a nice person, basically."

The case led to an overhaul of how reports of child abuse and neglect are investigated in Prince William County.

Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Ebert said bus drivers, school counselors and a school principal called social services a total of 11 times to report abuse concerns. Twice police became involved, but Glover's custody of the girl was never revoked.

The county's social services agency fired one senior social worker and disciplined two others for mishandling the case. An internal review found that several employees did not follow proper procedures in response to abuse and neglect reports about the child.
