The University of Maryland has announced that senior James Gist and sophomore Landon Milbourne will miss the Terrapins season opener against North Florida on November 11. The North Florida contest is part of the 2007 O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.

Gist and Milbourne participated in one day of the Maryland State 5-on-5 Tournament in Ocean City, Md. in April.  Their participation in the event was in violation of NCAA Bylaw 14.7.2 prohibiting student-athletes from competing in unsanctioned basketball competition outside of the university.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The players had assumed the event was sanctioned.  Upon learning of their participation in the event, the Maryland athletics department shared the infractions with the NCAA.

Gist and Milbourne will return to the Terrapins lineup November 12 in the second round of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic, when the Terps face either Tulsa or Hampton.
