Maryland Senate to Try to Override Governor's Veto

It would be the first O'Malley veto to be tested in a Senate override vote. The bill was approved unanimously earlier this year in both the Senate and the House of Delegates. No one testified against it during a Senate committee hearing. The current state law requires police departments to either destroy the guns or sell them only to another police agency or an active or retired officer.
In his veto message, O'Malley stated that "police weapons should not be potentially made available outside of the law enforcement community."The Senate's Judicial Proceedings Committee voted Monday to unanimously recommend that the full Senate override the veto.
