Incidents like this remind me of Austin Powers 2 - where Austin is driving the steam roller less than 1 mph, and this security guard is screaming for him to stop 30-40 feet away and he's so petrified he can't move and gets run over. Trains are like the same thing....they just don't sneak up on you! It's kinda hard for a train to be so quiet you don't know it's coming.....

Carrie, you're so right about the trains. It seems to be more common now than in the past and may I add to your comments if I may... a train coming at you gives a false reading as to how fast it is approaching you.. It seems to be moving much slower than it actually is.. it's sort of like looking at your side mirrors on your car and if you read the warning it says that "objects are much closer " I never take a chance and run across the tracks with flashing lights. That's a stupid thing to do. Nothing is worth your life. Being late is okay with me when a train is coming. At least I will get to my destination later.

Wow! In the last two months, this is the third incident involving the train tracks through Gaithersburg. The first one when the 17 year old boy was hit, I was a witness too. People need to understand that playing chicken with the trail is 99% deadly. Don't try and make it over the tracks before the gates come down, you dont know how fast that train is going. As soon as I see those lights come on and gates starting to go down, I stop. USE YOUR BRAINS! As for the train drivers, they need to slow down some going through Gaithersburg its a pretty busy city and I see trains flying through here faster then I would drive.
