Cavalier, Hokie Players Honored

Virginia defensive end Chris Long and Virginia Tech linebacker Xavier Adibi have been named among 15 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award.


The annual award is given to the nation's top defensive player. It is presented by the Maxwell Club, which also gives the Maxwell Award to the college football player of the year and the George Munger Award to the college coach of the year. Long leads the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranks fifth in the nation with 12 sacks. The senior also is second in the country among linemen in passes defended with eight and is averaging 6.5 tackles for the No. 23 Cavaliers this season.
