Westbrook Runs Over Redskins, 33-25
posted 4:39 pm Sun November 11, 2007 - Landover, Md.
Don't bury the Philadelphia Eagles just yet. Not as long as Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook are producing.

With the Eagles trailing by five and three rushers closing in, McNabb threw a screen pass to Westbrook over the middle. Sprung by four solid downfield blocks, Westbrook scampered for a 57-yard touchdown with 3:16 remaining for the winning touchdown Sunday in a 33-25 victory over the Washington Redskins.
McNabb, who promised to be "truly motivated" after hearing questions about his future following last week's blowout loss to Dallas, completed 20 of 28 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns. Westbrook caught two touchdown passes and ran for another score, finishing with 20 carries for 100 yards and five receptions for 83 yards.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The Eagles (4-5), who have been alternating wins and losses since Week 2, remained in last place in the NFC East, but moved within striking distance of the Redskins (5-4), who let a struggling Philadelphia team reel off 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Westbrook's catch & run TD gave the Eagles a 26-25 lead. He added one more score, a 10-yard run, with 2:18 to play after the Eagles recovered Washington quarterback Jason Campbell's fumble on a fourth & long deep in Redskins territory.

At the end of the game, two Eagles under much fire - McNabb and coach Andy Reid - exchanged a long embrace. It was only the second time this season Philadelphia has scored more than 24.

Campbell completed 23 of 34 passes for 215 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, including the first three touchdown passes to wide receivers for the Redskins all season. Clinton Portis, who last week ended a 12-game drought without a 100-yard game, made it two in a row with 137 yards on 30 carries.

James Thrash, starting because of an injury to Santana Moss, had his most productive day in several years. Entering the game with only three catches all season, Thrash had five receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns. It had been six years to the day since Thrash had a multi-touchdown game, coming with the Eagles in between his two stints in Washington.

Westbrook's winning touchdown was set up by a conservative move by Washington coach Joe Gibbs. With the Redskins facing a third & goal at the 7 and leading by two late in the game, the coach essentially decided to play for the field goal with a running play to Portis rather than try for the touchdown that likely would have sealed the win. Portis was stopped short, and Shaun Suisham's 21-yard field increased the lead to five but kept the Eagles in the game.

Trailing 22-13 in the fourth quarter, McNabb started the Eagles rally by throwing a deep ball over the wrong shoulder of Reggie Brown deep down the middle. Linebacker London Fletcher fell down, safety Pierson Prioleau got turned around, and Brown made a nice adjustment to catch the ball for a 45-yard score.

Donovan McNabb broke Ron Jaworski's Philadelphia Eagles record for most career completions, surpassing the old mark with a touchdown pass against the Washington Redskins.

McNabb's 19th completion of the day, in 27 attempts to that point, gave him 2,089 completions in nine NFL seasons, all with Philadelphia.

He moved past Jaworski on a 45-yard scoring pass to wideout Reggie Brown with about 10½ minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Maybe now the local sportscasters will tell it like it is. The Redskins suck and have sucked for the past few years. Every year the local sportscasters blow hot air on how good the Redskins are going to be without a game being played. You won't win games without an offense. Clinton Portis should concentrate on football instead of playing dress up for the media.
