Arlington Deputy Sheriff Killed in Car Crash
posted 5:59 pm Tue November 13, 2007 - Arlington, Va.
Arlington County's chief deputy sheriff has died in a car crash.
Fifty-three-year-old Dennis Webb died Saturday afternoon in Prince William County when an out of control Jeep hit an SUV then returned to the road and hit Webb's car.
Police say that 47-year-old Scott Edgell of Stafford was charged with reckless driving. They say that speed was a factor in the accident.
The preliminary police investigation has revealed that Edgell may have suffered a medical related emergency causing him to lose control of his vehicle and subsequently causing the fatal crash.
The police department has learned that Edgell previously had experienced seizures but had been authorized to drive.
No one else was hurt in the crash.
Arlington Sheriff Beth Arthur says that Webb was one of the greatest guys you'd ever want to meet. She says he joined the department after retiring from a 22-year career in Prince William, where he lived.
A viewing will be held for Webb Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home on 8521 Sudley Road in Manassas. Webb's funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Manassas Assembly of God on 11,500 New Life Way in Bristow.
