D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Attorney General Linda Singer and Police Chief Cathy Lanier will hold a news conference Tuesday to address D.C.'s gun safety law.

After the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit held that D.C.'s longstanding ban on private possession of handguns in D.C. violates the Second Amendment, Fenty requested that Singer's office prepare a brief that askes the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the ruling and uphold the well-supported judgement of the D.C. government that the ban saves lives and is fully constitutional. The news conference is scheduled for 11:30 at One Judiciary Square in the District.
