One of D.C.'s most popular night spots, Adam's Morgan, is a challenge for those who work security because unruly crowds are becoming more and more common.

There are 70 establishments with liquor licenses in a few blocks of 18th Street alone and residents said brawls are a normal occurrence. "It's bedlam, mayhem. Most of these people are not from Adams Morgan. They come here to get drunk, then there's a lot of safety problems," said Nancy Shia, ANC Commissioner.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?"I think it's like the weeds have taken over the forest," said resident Eddie Becker.

Running from crisis to crisis is Metro Police Department Officer Kim Selby, whose beat is in Adam's Morgan. "A lot of thing that happen up here, it's a very large crowd and you're very out numbered. You just try to make sure everybody gets home safe."

"I have been punched many times up there. It's the nature of the game most of the people up here are very intoxicated they don't know what they're doing."

Residents question if so many clubs should be in one place. Massive private and business district security teams in addition to police work to keep order.

Residents complain that for the benefits of club owners, this degree of mayhem is tolerated.

Until a few months ago, Adams Morgan catered to DC's rich, European-American college students. Suddenly, there are gangs of empty-pocketed African-Americans lurking on the sidewalks robbing the students as they exit the bars. From what I hear, the European-Americans are now staying away and the bars are closing earlier every week to avoid riots.
