If it is a successful business, it doesn't need a subsidy.
If it would save jobs or add jobs, then that has public value for the economy and tax base. If it brings services to an area that is underserved, fine.
I don't see that the proposed handout to Radio One meets any goal of building the city or helping the citizenry.
I had no problem with the subsidy for the Greater Southeast hospital because it saved jobs, added to quality medical care for residents in an area who have a serious need for additional high quality medical care in that part of the city - As I understand, it is the only hospital east of the Anacostia River, right? If it closed it would have been a serious proplem for many thousands of residents.
What does Radio One do to help any DC neighborhood? If there is a benefit, it has escaped me. I don't object to Radio One relocating there, I just don't see a reason for a handout of tax dollars.
It's not like our black neighbors can't get radio reception from Lanham. That subsidy is a waste of tax dollars.
