Gallaudet University president Robert Davila said the school is no longer on probation.
The Northeast Washington school is the nation's top liberal arts college for the deaf and hard of hearing. But its was put on probation this year by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The sanction came months after protesters angry over the choice of a new president shut the campus down for several days by blocking the entrances.
Accreditors later said the school was out of compliance on eight of 14 standards. It remains accredited, but is awaiting a 10-year renewal of that status.
A Middle States official confirms that a panel of accreditors has voted to take the school off probation and give it a warning. That's an interim step as the school works toward reaccreditation.
Davila said school officials used the probationary status as a wake-up call, said, working to turn the problems around.
