Prince William County Police Search for Arsonist
posted 12:44 pm Wed December 05, 2007 - Woodbridge, Va.
Prince William County police are asking for the public's help locating the arsonist responsible for causing two fires at two Woodbridge businesses in last month. Investigators say around 11:45 p.m. on November 25th, the suspect sparked a fire at the Meadows Farm Nursery on the 14,100-block of Jefferson Davis Highway. Then about an hour later, a second fire was reported at Playtime Pools and Spas across the street on the 14,300-block.
The call first came in after the nursery's security alarm went off reporting a possible break-in; once officers were on scene they discovered an open door and the fire.
Later crews noticed smoke coming from a pool and spa store across the street. With chemicals located inside the store, firefighters were taking extra precautions with the second fire, fighting it from the outside and not going inside the building.
Smoke from the second fire was so intense that fire officials evacuated nearby residences.
Authorities say both businesses sustained major property loss and damage that is estimated at a total of $1 million.
