Christmas trees are going missing in Prince William County and in one case, two Boy Scout troops were the victims.

It's happening in Woodbridge and Lakeridge areas of the county. Eleven-year-old Davis Barcolo said he hasn't seen anything like this. "I mean, who would steal Christmas trees from Boy Scouts? I mean, we're just trying to raise money to go to scout camp."

Thirty-four Balsam Firs vanished not long after the load of trees from Nova Scotia arrived. The scouts took a count and noticed some of the trees were gone, equaling $1,500.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?"It's pretty pathetic if they're that low down and all," said David Hooks.

Scoutmaster Doug Doerr said there's little doubt they were taken and not paid for. "They likely pulled up in a truck right here and loaded them and drove up."

The tree lot is along busy Dale Boulevard within sight of many stores and banks. "A lot businesses have surveillance videos and cameras and that helps a lot in solving our crimes," said Prince William County Police officer Erika Hernandez.

Some said they made a point to pick a tree from the scout lot to help them make up what they lost. "If anything, we should be donating money to help the Boy Scouts out," said shopper Darnella Murray.

New Eagle Scout Jacob Mosser said the experience will give him more than just another merit badge. "There is good in the world. People do, do good deeds."

I'm sure somewhere out there, there is a couple of gene pool rejects selling these stolen trees on a corner... kind of like the people who sell roses at the traffic lights around here. It's unfortunate that the Boy Scouts will need to create a patch for standing watch over Christmas trees.

Personally I try to find the Boy Scouts selling trees at this time of year. I've always found a great tree and friendly helpful people on these lots.
