Frederick School Board Member: No Tasers
posted 10:46 am Thu November 29, 2007 - Frederick, Md.
Frederick County school board member Daryl Boffman wants to prohibit sheriff's deputies who patrol the county schools from carrying Tasers, at least until there is more research about them.
His comments at Wednesday's board meeting were prompted by this month's death of a Frederick man soon after a deputy subdued him with one of the stun guns. Earlier this fall, a deputy used a Taser to subdue a student at Tuscarora High School. Boffman said deputies patrolled schools for years without Tasers and said their other equipment is sufficient to protect them. But Sheriff Chuck Jenkins told the board he would not send his deputies into schools without all of their equipment.
