Frederick County school board member Daryl Boffman wants to prohibit sheriff's deputies who patrol the county schools from carrying Tasers, at least until there is more research about them.

His comments at Wednesday's board meeting were prompted by this month's death of a Frederick man soon after a deputy subdued him with one of the stun guns. Earlier this fall, a deputy used a Taser to subdue a student at Tuscarora High School. Boffman said deputies patrolled schools for years without Tasers and said their other equipment is sufficient to protect them. But Sheriff Chuck Jenkins told the board he would not send his deputies into schools without all of their equipment.

COMMON-SENSE and 23skdo, you're both so right. If people are not doing anything wrong, there is nothing to fear now is there? There wouldn't be problems in our schools if all kids were just responsible young adults. When I was in high school, we didn't have officers or security in our schools. Yes there was the occasional fight, but administration handled that (like they do now anyways). There were no gangs and what-not 10-20 years ago in most schools (besides inner city of course), now rural/suburban schools have gang problems and what-not. Very scary. What are our youth turning into? Seems like there are are more "bad apples" in the bunch than historically...
