- (Sports Network) - Ales Hemsky picked up three points on two goals and one assist as Edmonton held on to top Philadelphia, 5-4, at the Wachovia Center. Erik Cole, Dustin Penner and Sheldon Souray also tallied for the Oilers, who have won two in a row after losing five straight. Defenseman Tom Gilbert picked up three helpers and fellow backliner Ladislav Smid added a pair of assists. Dwayne Roloson made 22 saves for the win, his second in as many days. Simon Gagne and Mike Knuble registered a goal and assist each for the Flyers, whose four-game win streak came to an end. Martin Biron took the loss after allowing five goals on 28 shots.

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Chad LaRose picked up the game-winning goal in the third period as Carolina outgunned Toronto, 6-4, in the opener of a home- and-home set between the clubs at RBC Center. Eric Staal, Ray Whitney and Tuomo Ruutu each contributed a goal and one assist for the Hurricanes, who have won three of five. Dwight Helminen, in his fourth career game, recorded his first career points with a goal and a helper. Michael Leighton picked up the win with a 29-save performance. Mikhail Grabovski netted a pair of goals for the Maple Leafs, who lost for the second time in the last six games. Ian White and Niklas Hagman also tallied. Curtis Joseph remained winless on the year after allowing five goals on 29 shots.

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Ilya Kovalchuk registered two goals and an assist, as Atlanta defeated Florida, 5-3, in a tussle between two slumping Southeast Division clubs at Philips Arena. Todd White had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who slammed the brakes on a six-game losing streak. Slava Kozlov and Bryan Little also scored, while Erik Christensen collected two assists. Ondrej Pavelec, who backstopped Atlanta's American Hockey league affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, to the Calder Cup last season, made 18 saves in his first start of 2008-09. David Booth, Nathan Horton and Noah Welch each lit the lamp for Florida, which has lost four games in a row. Tomas Vokoun allowed four goals on 30 shots in defeat.

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Milan Michalek and Devin Setoguchi each scored two goals, as the San Jose Sharks topped the Colorado Avalanche, 5-3, at the Pepsi Center. Ryane Clowe also lit the lamp for the Sharks, who have won four straight and, at 10-2-0, are off to their best start in franchise history. Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton both recorded two assists, while Evgeni Nabokov made 33 saves. Milan Hejduk registered a goal and an assist for Colorado, which has lost three straight after a five-game winning streak. Peter Budaj allowed five goals on 29 shots.

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and assist and Jean- Sebastien Giguere made 34 saves to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at the Honda Center. Chris Pronger and Ryan Carter also scored for the Ducks, who had a five-game winning streak halted on Friday. Giguere rebounded nicely after getting yanked in Friday's 7-6 shootout loss to Vancouver when he allowed four goals on 13 shots while Getzlaf extended his points streak to six straight games. Curtis Glencross and Todd Bertuzzi recorded goals while Jarome Iginla registered two assists for the Flames, who had their six-game winning streak brought to an end. Miikka Kiprusoff made 34 saves in taking the loss.

Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Mikael Samuelsson and Henrik Zetterberg each had a goal and an assist in Detroit's 3-2 victory over Vancouver. Brian Rafalski also scored for the Red Wings, who finished 3-1-1 on its five- game road trip. Chris Osgood was credited with the victory after stopping 25- of-27 shots. Detroit was 3-for-5 with the man advantage. Henrik Sedin and Kyle Wellwood tallied for the Canucks, which was 0-for-7 on the power play and snapped a short-lived two-game win streak. Roberto Luongo was beaten three times on 23 shots to take the loss.
