PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A Pakistani official says militants killed a soldier with mortar fire near the troubled frontier city of Peshawar.Zafrullah Khan is the head of the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, where Taliban militants are challenging the government.
Khan said the mortar round hit a paramilitary camp in the village of Michni on Saturday. He said one of his men was killed and another was wounded.
Michni lies 14 miles from Peshawar, the provincial capital, where security has deteriorated dramatically.

In the past three days, unidentified gunmen have killed an American aid worker, abducted an Iranian diplomat and shot and wounded two foreign reporters in the city.
