LARGO, Md. - Although service has been restored following a water main break in Largo Saturday, residents remain under a boil water advisory.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission passed out water at the Largo Plaza Shopping Center as the break caused water pressure and service to to fall around the area, increasing the chance of contamination for some residents.

It will be Thursday before tests are completed to determine if the water is contaminated.

WSSC spokesman Mike McGill says there is no indication that the water is tainted, but the precautions are necessary because of the possibility.

Tap water should be boiled for one minute, then cooled, before it is used for drinking, washing dishes or preparing food.

The advisory involves homes in a 39-square-mile area in central Prince George's County, as well as several schools and and government buildings. Prince George's County schools has said that this will not affect school openings, but that food services will have to boil water before using it. Ice from ice machines and water fountains cannot be used, but restrooms should still be operable.

The list of schools affected includes: Phyllis E. Williams Elementary School, Kingsford Elementary School, Kettering Elementary School, Lake Arbor Elementary School, Thomas Pullen Elementary School, Perrywood Elementary School, Woodmore Elementary School, Kettering Middle School, Ernest Everett Just Middle School, Largo High School, Tall Oaks Vocactional High School, Dr. Henry A Wise High School, H. Winship Wheatley Special Center.

The Ridgeley Bus Lot, The Facilities Service Base and the Sasscer Administration Building will also be affected,

"Yeah, it's a pain, but that's how it goes," said Ruben Herndon, a frustrated driver delayed by Saturday's repai. "The water main breaks; I don't know if anybody can do anything about that."

Redskins (web|news) fans were urged to find alternate routes on Sunday as the right lane of Central Avenue was closed through the evening. "I don't know...we might have to take a boat," said one Redskins Fan.

The major break has caused some major headaches for businesses and residents in the area. The break, which happened Saturday around 2:30 a.m. on Central Avenue near the beltway, closed the roadway, exit ramps and nearby businesses, and backed up traffic for hours.

A nearby IHOP restaurant was shut down on its busiest day, as was a nearby Checkers restaurant. In addition, many households throughout the area saw their water pipes run dry.

"It was just trickling out real, real slow," said one resident.

Crews were eventually able to isolate the break after several hours.
