ARLINGTON, Va. - The death of a 22-year-old Marine from Oregon is under investigation in Virginia, where his body was found on a highway last weekend.

Pfc. Maddison Peterson was apparently struck by a large vehicle before he was struck by a small sports car Saturday night in
Arlington, Va. Peterson's mother, Pam, said her son had been assigned to a presidential guard unit in the nation's capital. He was stationed at Marine Barracks Washington in Washington, D.C.

Peterson was remembered by his football coach at Sam Barlow High School in suburban Troutdale as "as one of the most gifted
athletes I have ever worked with." Peterson had recently signed a contract with a New York modeling firm and had successfully auditioned for clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch.
