- (Sports Network) - Alabama and Texas Tech remained the top two
teams in the latest Associated Press college football poll, and the rest
of the top 10 was the same as well.
The Crimson Tide (11-0) had no problems in a 32-7 romp over Mississippi State
on Saturday, while the Red Raiders (10-0) had the week off after throttling
Oklahoma State to the tune of 56-20 in Lubbock the previous Saturday.
Alabama received 42 first-place votes, two fewer than last week, and a total
of 1,601 points to remain atop the rankings. Texas Tech garnered 21 first-
place votes and a total of 1,574 points, both the same from the previous week,
to keep the second slot.
Florida (9-1) regained two first place votes thanks to their 56-6 pasting of
then No. 24 South Carolina, which dropped out of the top-25 with the loss.
Texas (10-1), Oklahoma (9-1) and Southern California (9-1) remained fourth,
fifth and sixth, respectively as Texas and Southern California each won on
Saturday while Oklahoma had the day off.
Penn State (10-1) bounced back from last week's loss to Iowa with a 34-7
triumph over Indiana to remain in the seventh spot. Utah (11-0), Boise State
(10-0) and Ohio State (9-2) rounded out the top 10.
The next six spots remained the same with Oklahoma State, Missouri, Georgia,
Ball State, TCU and BYU all maintaining their positions.
Michigan State and LSU each moved up one spot thanks to North Carolina
dropping to No. 25 after a 17-15 loss to Maryland, which moved into the Top-25
to No. 22 thanks to the win.
Cincinnati jumped three spots to No. 19 while Pittsburgh completed the top 20.
Oregon State moved up two spots to No. 21 while Maryland, Miami-Florida,
Oregon and North Carolina were the final ranked teams.
The biggest game next week pits Texas Tech at Oklahoma. Other games featuring
ranked opponents will see Pittsburgh playing at Cincinnati; BYU playing at
Utah and Michigan State traveling to Happy Valley for a game against Penn
State
