The female dama gazelle calf was born Sunday, Nov. 2, between 6:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. at the zoo's Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal, Va., the zoo reported.
Fewer than 500 dama gazelles exist in the wild.
Weighing in at about 10 pounds, the calf is bonding with her mother 2-year-old Adara, and nursing. Fully grown, the antelope will weigh 88 to 165 pounds.
The zoo reported the father is an unnamed 1-year-old.
The Front Royal conservation center has a total of four dama gazelles.
Zoo officials say another female gazelle delivered a stillborn calf on Friday.
Dama gazelles are native to the Saharan desert area and are closely related to antelopes.
